Taking Back Sunday, which stunned the music industry last year with a Top 3 debut for its "Where You Want to Be" CD released on the independent label Victory Records, confirmed yesterday that it has signed with major label Warner Bros. Records.
The alt-rock band returns to its Rockville Centre base next week after finishing a co-headlining tour with Jimmy Eat World, and will work on a new CD this summer. "It was the right move for us at the right time and we feel really good about it," bassist Matt Rubano said. "It will mean a better situation for us and our listeners."

The news comes as relations between Taking Back Sunday and Victory Records have become publicly strained. Singer Adam Lazzara complained on the band's Web site about a Victory-produced tour program that excludes Jimmy Eat World but includes advertising for Victory bands not on the tour and a full-page ad featuring Victory owner Tony Brummel. Lazzara called the ad "nothing more than a corporate agenda (cleverly disguised as an anticorporate agenda) placed strategically in front of everyone in hopes of raising funds for more Escalades, vacation homes and noncorporate office supplies."
Another disagreement is over the band's video for "Set Phasers to Stun," which features the Troup de Pozolo de Zav dancers, but not the band. The Fuse cable channel loved the video so much it took the unusual step of playing it on its "Oven Fresh" show yesterday, even though Victory hasn't sent the song to radio stations as a single.
A Victory Records spokeswoman declined comment.
Taking Back Sunday's Warner Bros. deal was inked months ago, before the company's move to become publicly traded. Shares of Warner Music Group Corp. were to start trading on the New York Stock Exchange today.
